Tamia striatus
Description: Small rodents measuring about nine inches including a three inch tail; reddish brown fur with cream and black stripes on their sides
Habitat: Wooded and brushy areas
Food: Nuts, seeds, and small invertebrates
Field Notes: Like many squirrels, chipmunks hibernate during the winter in an underground nest chamber; can store more than 100 seeds at a time in expandable cheek pouches
