Birds

Birds, of the class Aves, are feathered, winged, bipedal, warm-blooded, egg-laying, vertebrate animals. There are around 10,000 living species. Birds range in size from 2 inches (the Bee Hummingbird) to 9 feet tall (the Ostrich). The fossil record shows that birds evolved from theropod dinosaurs during the Jurassic period, around 150 million years ago. Paleontologists believe birds are the only branch of dinosaurs to have survived the Cretaceous-Paleogene extinction event 66 million years ago.
